What You Must Have!

  • Active connection to the internet. If you are reading this....chances are pretty good you are currently on-line. Video Streaming generates from our servers and is transmitted over the internet. For best performance, the connection speed should be 56bps minimum.
  • A current version of Real Player or Windows Media Player. To provide the latest advances in streaming technology, Cyberview uses the most current streaming servers. While this means you probably will need to download a free player, it only takes about 5- 10 minutes to download and install and would only be done once. Free Version of Real Player *here* .... Free version of Windows Media Player *here*.
  • A functioning sound card and speakers. While you will not require a sound card and speakers to see the video, you won't hear a thing without them!

Troubleshooting!

Will Not Play! Not all browsers will automatically inform you of the requirement of a current player. If you receive a browser error message or are unable to open the file, click on the free download of the appropriate player and install it on your computer. Subsequent streaming cv selections will play automatically when you click the file.

Video: If you are using 28bps Modem speed, you are using the lowest acceptable streaming forum. While the picture is viewable, during periods of "net congestion" you will experience choppiness and regular buffering. If possible please use 56bps or higher. If you are currently using 56bps or greater connection speed, you may improve video clarity by

  1. Setting your monitor to 16-bit (thousands) or 24-bit (millions) color.
  2. Update the system's video driver regularly.
  3. Close unnecessary applications of your computer.
  4. Do not use the Zoom button on lower bandwidth clips.

Audio: If the audio sounds like it is being played too fast or too slow, scratchy, or distorted, you may change the performance setting in Real Player.

  1. Select Preferences from the Options menu.
  2. Click the Performance tab.
  3. Click the Settings button.
  4. Click either "Disable 16-bit sound" or "Disable custom sampling rates" to modify the way your player and sound card interface. You may need to play with the settings to see which sounds best.

Net Congestion is simply high traffic loads on the data lines. The more people online, the slower (more congested) the internet is on a whole. It causes packet loss and slow response time.

Buffering is a normal process of live streaming. It is also a good thing. What is happening is the video server is sending the stream to the player which in turn stores (buffers) the data for about five seconds. This way, if Net Congestion occures, the stream doesn't stop dead, it will continue to play for another five seconds. This gives the video server and player time to reconnect with one another and start to re-send the data which was lost.
